Neighbors,

WPENA has received notice that after a demolition application was filed for 1025 S York St. Landmarks Preservation has found the house has the potential for landmark designation. The building is now posted for 21 days, during which period a Notice of Intent to file for a landmark designation may be made.

The house has potential for Landmark Designation for the following criteria:
1) t has direct and substantial association with a recognized person or group of persons who had influence on society;

2) It embodies the distinctive visible characteristics of an architectural style or type;

3) It promotes understanding and appreciation of the urban environment by means of distinctive physical characteristics or rarity;

You can read the full report here.

Please see the following from Becca Diershow, Becca Dierschow, Associate City Planner—Landmark Preservation:

A Demolition application has been submitted for 1025 S. York St. The City and County of Denver, Community Planning & Development, has reviewed the application and found the property has potential for landmark designation pursuant to Section 30-6 of the Denver Revised Municipal Code. The building will be posted for 21 days beginning on November 20, 2020 for a notice of intent to file a designation (“Notice of Intent”) to be brought forth.

To begin the designation process, a Notice of Intent must be received on December 11, 2020 by Community Planning and Development by 4:30 pm.  If a Notice of Intent is received by Community Planning and Development by December 11, 2020, the posting period is extended to January 19, 2021 during which time a meeting is required (see DRMC Section 30-6(1)(c)). If a Notice of Intent is not received December 11, 2020, a Landmark Demolition approval will be issued on December 12, 2020, allowing demolition permits to be issued upon compliance with all state and city requirements.

Additional information can be found on our website. Do not hesitate to reach out if I may be of further assistance.
