October 2019 Monthly Meeting

We have an exciting meeting coming up tomorrow night: with a chance for you to learn about Denver Water’s Lead Reduction Program. Please join your Washington Park East Neighborhood Association board for our monthly meeting, learn from our featured speaker, hear about upcoming events and current issues, and get involved in areas that interest you.

  1. Call to Order
  2. Introduction of Board members
  3. Approval of Agenda – Additions
  4. Approval of Minutes of September 10, 2019 meeting
  5. Introduction of Community Resource Officer (CRO) Matthew Grimsley
  6. Introduction of Guest Speaker: Lexi Williams or her representative to discuss Denver Water’s Lead Reduction Program
  7. Introduction of Councilman Paul Kashmann
  8. Treasurer’s Report (Building Supervisor is Abi Newell)
  9. Committee Reports:
    1. Communications – newsletter, website, social media (Facebook, twitter, Nextdoor)
    2. Membership – see email from Bill Tracy, Aug. 6 re. Marney Babcock, potential volunteer
    3. Zoning – Multiple applications have been received and forwarded to Biddie Labrot. No reports received yet. I will forward them to Board members when received.
    4. Traffic – Reckless Driving on E. Exposition in E. Washington Park – Nextdoor post on Aug. 3 from Eric Williams, with other responses. He reportedly met with Councilman Kashmann and contacted Eulois Checkley
    5. INC – Sept. 14 meeting attended by Susan Payne. Topic: Process CPD (Community Planning and Development) is using to design Area Plans and effects on RNOs – Neighborhood Planning Initiative. Panel discussion led by Jamie Gillis.
    6. Park – Guest Speaker Oct. 9 will be Alan Polonsky to discuss water quality and algae in Wash. Park lakes, Grasmere and Smith Lakes
    7. Crime and Safety

  11. Old Business:
    1. Fall Happy Hour – Leslie MacRossie (Lark Realty) to sponsor at Wash Park Grille. Invitations sent for Oct. 17, 2019, 5:30-7:30 PM
    2. Future Speakers – Susan Payne may have offered to help contact someone. Other potential speakers include Robin Kneich, Councilperson-at-large to discuss homeless solutions, and Tim O’Brien, City Auditor
    3. Denver Solar Co-op. Meeting at District 3 Police Station, 1625 S. University Blvd., Wednesday, Oct. 23, 6 – 7:30 PM
    4. Marketing – further discussion?
  12. New Business:
    1. South High School – Community Partnership form completed and sent. South High Food Bank support
    2. Contact from Rachel Gruber, Manager of Community Affairs, Denver International Airport – see email Tim forwarded to Board on Sept. 23
    3. Leslie MacRossie: Interview Darci Barlow re. Neighborhood Watch, and Denver South Food Pantry List – see her email from Sept. 20
    4. Business leaving S. Gaylord St. See email from Biddie Labrot which is included with my email to Kate Ennis on Sept. 25, concerning The Tended Thicket reportedly purchased by Grant Realty. See recent Nextdoor posts concerning “recent changes to S. Gaylord St. businesses” – Oct. 5 references recent meeting including reps. from Mayor’s office and restaurant owners to discuss Denver’s planned minimum wage increases, specifically input from Dan Fugman, co-owner of Max Gill and Grille. Also another post on Oct. 5 which references businesses which “are leaving or have already left S. Gaylord St. – Sole Sisters, Edward Jones, The Tended Thicket, Charcoal Bistro, to name a few
