Tell Denver Parks & Recreation Your Thoughts on the Rest Period Program

Denver Parks & Recreation would like your feedback on the Public Events Rest Period Pilot Program, which was instituted for the 2016 season and continued through 2017.

In order to help protect park resources and maintain balance between recreational use and public events, a rest period was implemented for the 2016 permit season in Denver’s seven busiest parks, including Washington Park. This pilot program was originally planned for April 1-October 31, 2016, but was extended to the same time period in 2017 in order to obtain meaningful feedback and determine any adjustments needed for 2018. Rest periods ranged from 2 to 4 weekend days per month (Washington Park has a goal of 3 weekend rest days per month). In addition, the 5th weekend in a month was not booked for public events (with exceptions for historical priority events), and no new events were booked on Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day.

Actual Rest Days – Washington Park

The actual number of rest days in Washington Park for 2016 and 2017 were as outlined below. The reason the public event rest period goal was not met is due to historical events (which are given the exception to the holiday blackout dates and Saturday blackout dates):

  • 2016
  • April: 2
  • May: 2
  • June: 2
  • July: 2
  • August: 2
  • September: 1
  • October: 1
  • 2017
  • April: 3
  • May: 2
  • June: 2
  • July: 3
  • August: 2
  • September: 1
  • October: 1

Please take a few minutes to respond to the survey, which should take approximately 5 minutes to complete, and please share with your neighbors! The survey closes August 15th 2017.
